Charlene Butler, BComm, BSc, MBA, RIMS Fellow
Charlene is the President and founder of Butler Business Solutions Ltd. Charlene has over twenty-two years of business management experience in the Energy Industry, Insurance and Risk Management, Public and Education sectors.
Recent consulting experience includes the completion of:
- An evaluative framework measuring the social impact of programs for the City of Edmonton’s Taskforce on Community Safety
- Strategic and communication plans for the Edmonton Council of Business Revitalization Zones
- Comparative analysis of Alberta and Brazil’s beef industry for Alberta Livestock Industry Development Fund
- Risk management assessment and proforma income statement development for a client’s start-up operation
Direct work experience includes eleven years with two oil and gas service companies and eleven additional years as an insurer and risk manager to various industries. Charlene has provided risk management services for Alberta Energy, Alberta Environment, Alberta Research Council and their related boards and has completed an MBA degree specializing in Natural Resources and Energy.
Charlene has managed the transition of branches for two companies through mergers and acquisitions and optimized the performance of three separate branches. Extensive experience in client and employee management resulted in the successful transition and turnaround of the branches.
Charlene is a sessional lecturer at MacEwan instructing third and fourth year BComm students in Insurance and Risk Management and holds a Risk and Insurance Management Society Fellowship designation.

Rick Dowell, MBA, PEng
Rick is a Professional Engineer with an MBA from the University of Alberta with a specialization in Technology Commercialization. Rick has worked in project management roles for Propak Systems and ConocoPhillips Canada where he was responsible for bringing in numerous new technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. He completed a project for TEC Edmonton requiring the evaluation of business plans and completion of market research for new technologies.
Recent consulting experience includes completion of:
- Project for the City of Edmonton recommending improvements to Edmonton’s Business Revitalization Zone Council
- Donor engagement analysis for the Capital Region United Way.
- Comparative analysis of Alberta and Brazil’s dairy industry for Alberta Livestock Industry Development Fund
- Report to the Water Matters Alberta organization regarding the use of economic instruments to control water consumption and quality.
